INFORMATION
A CPD (Carnet de Passages en Douane) is a customs document based on UN Resolutions regarding the Temporary Importation of Private Road Vehicles (of 1954) and Commercial Road Vehicles (of 1956).
It means that when a vehicle is issued with such a document, it can pass easily across borders between countries that have signed these resolutions or accept them anyway.
To get a CPD, you have to deposit money in your home country (or – in this case – a country close to you!) which can be used if the car for some reason is stuck in one of the countries, if it is stolen, broken down or any such thing. If this should happen, the customs‘ authorities in the country where the car is left can get the legal import duties out of the deposit left. In such a case, the owner of the car does not get his deposit refunded.
The Carnets de Passages must always be kept with the car, and must be stamped on entry and exit from each country. It is very important that this is done properly, otherwise many countries are quick to demand duties and taxes.
The money we ask for a deposit varies depending on what countries you are planning to visit. When issuing a CPD for a foreign registered car, the deposit is higher because our insurance does not cover cars not registered in Sweden – so it is most important that the vehicle is brought back safely and not left anywhere. If it should be left anywhere, it is your responsibility to pay all of the customs duties and charges in accordance with the documents signed.
